Best foot forward: our LGFL charity fundraising events in autumn 2024
As part of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, at LGFL we participate in a variety of national charity events and local level sponsorships. here’s what we’ve supported this autumn.
Our local show
Our offices are based outside of Reading in the small community of Swallowfield. Rich in history but spread over quite a large area, it’s sometime difficult for all the community to come together at the same time and place.
That’s why the annual Swallowfield Show is so important. A traditional horticultural show with a focus on community activities and businesses, plus show classes for horses and dogs, and an impressive display of classic cars, it is always a great day out for everyone. We enjoyed our family fun dog show sponsorship so much last year we decided to sponsor the show again in a different arena.
With our child-centred approach in family law, we sponsored the child identity wristbands for the event. The idea was simple; a paper wristband with the child’s name and parents’ details on the inside s0 not visible to all (and our details on the outside).
If a child got separated from its family amongst the 100+ stalls and marquees, they could be identified and quickly reunited using the information on the inside of the band.
National charities
In these cash-strapped times, it’s even more important that we a a business and individuals join in with events that raise the profile of national charities. In the past five weeks alone, we have once again raised money for charities by participating in events including:
Macmillan Coffee Morning
This event is always a winner in our eyes, combining fundraising for charity with delicious cakes! We also fully endorse the holistic approach the charity takes to helping people with cancer:
“We’re here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can. Whether you need help paying bills, advice on benefits or treatment, or just want to chat.”
Jeans for Genes
As family lawyers, we enjoy the chance to wear something less court and more casual! Jeans for Genes is the annual fundraising event for the genetic condition community, so our donation goes towards helping families in the UK affected by a life-altering genetic condition.
Reading Legal Walk
It’s not often we get the chance to take part in a local legal charity event, which is why we always lace up our trainers for the Reading Legal Walk.
This year, LGFL team members Helen Dickie, Matilda Kite, Eve Thomas, Dheeba Ali, Rita Gupta and Gill Gillings joined over 300 walkers (and a few dogs!) walking 10K in support of fair access to justice for members of the Reading & Thames Valley community.
So far, the Walk has raised £9,000 for Age UK Reading, Citizens Advice Reading, FLAG DV, Launchpad and Refugee Support Group. We smashed our fundraising target by 280% but you can always add a donation if you want to push us over the 300%!
Local Charities at Christmas
Many consider our part of southern England to be universally well-off and privileged, but this is not the case. Like all areas of the UK, there are areas where people are in genuine need of help and support, especially in our local cities of Reading and Basingstoke.
We have yet to select our Christmas charities for 2024, but in the past we have supported:
ReadiFood
An independent food bank providing food parcels to those in severe need in the greater Reading area.
Your Sanctuary
A Surrey based charity supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Offers sanctuary, support and empowerment to anyone affected by domestic abuse.
The Cowshed Reading
The Cowshed is a crisis charity that provides clothing and other items for individuals and families in Berkshire experiencing hardship.
Newbury Soup Kitchen
Newbury Soup Kitchen provides freshly cooked meals for the homeless, vulnerable, less fortunate and the rough sleepers of Newbury.
The Camrose Centre
The Centre is for people struggling with accommodation within Basingstoke and Deane so they can find support, companionship, have a hot shower, find clean clothes, shoes and essential food packs.
