What our interns say

Our internship and mentoring programme is very important to us - and much prized by those who have been on it too. Here's what interns past and present say.

Lois Tackie-Oblie

"Working as a legal assistant at LGFL was, without a doubt, an integral step in my journey to becoming a solicitor. Working alongside 2 highly skilled practitioners in such close proximity enabled me, not only to see the handling of numerous family law matters, but also provided me a great insight into how a legal practice is run.

I look back on my time at LGFL with incredible fondness and I will always be grateful for the time and support that Anne, Rita and the whole team poured into me. I was able to carry out tasks which taught me a vast amount about family law cases but I never felt that I was left too out of my depth.

The whole experience greatly increased my confidence. It was always very interesting when I was able to attend court and I enjoyed being able to sit in on so many client meetings. I appreciated Anne and Rita’s flexibility in my working programme which enabled me to continuing working at LGFL whilst studying for my LPC.

Because of the experience I gained at LGFL, I was I offered a role as a paralegal at a law firm in London. I was then able to undertake my training at the same firm and qualified as a solicitor in June 2016. I now work within the in-house legal team at a charity called The Challenge."

Tara Woodward

After her internship with us, Tara secured a training contract with a London law firm. Tara was Hampshire based and worked with us in the holidays from her Law Degree at Durham University.

"When I first came to LGFL for an interview, I had never had a formal interview, and I had no legal experience. Rita and Anne were warm and friendly, even offering me advice during the interview on what I could have improved, and were kind enough to offer me an internship.

During the internship I was able to develop hugely valuable skills, and most importantly for me, build my confidence. I was trusted with important tasks such as attending court, meeting clients, and liaising with other lawyers from the start. I was given a level of responsibility that I have not been given in subsequent placements at other firms.

Rita and Anne were not only different from other firms in the level of responsibility they gave me, but also in the level of relationship that they developed with me. They were so warm, friendly, and approachable, and had a genuine interest in my development. They gave me advice and feedback which was very specific to me personally, and which I continue to use to this day. I feel because of this I was able to gain so much more from this internship than others.

During other Vacation Schemes at large firms, I have spent large periods of time without any work, and feeling a bit in the way. At LGFL ,there was always something for me to do. I was able to get to know the firm well enough that if I was ever at a loose end I could always find things to do.

Furthermore, the length of time they offered me was hugely beneficial in the long run. The Managing Partner at my future firm commented that they had never had someone who had so much experience working in a law firm before, and this made me stand out. He believed this offered me a practical advantage, as most trainees have never had experience working in an office environment, and the first 6 months are often spent learning about and adapting to working in an office.

I can honestly say that my time at LGFL was the best way to start my career, I only wish that I lived closer so that I could continue to learn there through my LPC!"

Victoria Spencer

Victoria was an intern with us during her LPC at Guildford Law School. She has now secured a training contract with a London firm, having worked for a year after us as a Paralegal with a niche family law firm.

"My internship at LGFL was a fantastic opportunity to begin my career in family law; I was exposed to range of family cases and given real responsibility which furthered my legal skill set. The internship complimented my LPC studies and undoubtedly helped me secure a paralegal job at a leading family law firm in London."

Sam Taylor

Sam is our current intern, studying for his Law Degree at Reading Law School.

"I cannot speak highly enough of the experience that I gained from LGFL Ltd, both in a legal context and outside of it.

The firm guided me through my university years, offering me invaluable opportunities from a work experience perspective and priceless advice in how to take the next steps. The directors were always so understanding of my academic priorities and allowed me to shape my working time around that.

The responsibilities bestowed upon me were far greater than I could ever have gained at other legal firms, including vital marketing experience.

This internship opportunity represents a fantastic chance to gain unique experience in file handling and client contact, and I cannot thank the firm highly enough for the time that they invested in me."
