As part of our ongoing support for local charities and events, LGFL Ltd were delighted to sponsor a class at the recent Wey Valley Riding Club Summer Show. Over 170 riders entered this popular show, held at Highbrook Stables in Hampshire. We sponsored the “Ridden Mountain and Moorland or Native” Class which was a registered Class offering qualification to the Sunshine Tour Championship.
Let the sunshine in
The Sunshine Tour is a championship series of events aimed at novice, amateur and unaffiliated riders, handlers, horses and ponies. The top four in any registered class qualify for the 2018 Sunshine Tour Championship, held at the famous All England Showground, Hickstead in September.
What are mountain and moorlands?
Mountain and moorland ponies (or M&M as they are known) are a group of small horses and ponies native to the British Isles. They are the stocky, hardy ponies which you can see roaming the few remaining open common grazing spaces in the UK.
This group includes the four native Welsh types, and iconic, location-specific pony breeds such as the Dartmoor, Exmoor, Dales, Fell (Cumbria), New Forest and Shetland ponies.
Our class was one of 10 show classes, where horse (or pony) and rider are groomed to perfection! Classes are either ridden, or in-hand where the horse is led in the ring. The Summer Show also featured show jumping, dressage, fun classes (including Best Trot), Children’s Gymkhana races, and even a dog show!
Our worthy winner!
Our sponsored class was won by Jess Deans on Atinas Kaluki, a Welsh Cob. Flushed with their success in our class, Jess and Atinas were also placed 3rd overall in the Ridden Championship too! Jess commented on social media that the Summer Show was AMAZING, and we were glad to be a small part of this highly enjoyable event.
Our 10 AoKs (Acts of Kindness)
As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, we’ll be supporting ten charitable or community causes, one for each year we’ve been in business. Our aim is to identify and help local projects that will benefit from a small donation rather than us make larger contributions to fewer charities.
We’ve already made a start with donations to:
- Theale and Tilehurst Cricket Club
- Smalls for All
- Idina’s Toilet Twinning Mission
