Top of the List: New Band 1 Ranking in Chambers for LGFL Director Rita Gupta

We’re so thrilled that our Director Rita Gupta is now ranked as a Band 1 family lawyer in the prestigious Chambers and Partners. This places her at the very top level of family and matrimonial lawyers in the Thames Valley area. From first being listed just eight years ago, Rita has rapidly risen to the top Band.
Rita’s rise in ranking reflects both her exceptional work with clients and her mission to make family law more accessible over the last 12 months. Recently she has been speaking at national conferences and seminars on AI and the law.
- "Rita is tenacious and fantastic with clients."
- "She really cares about getting it right and has the ability to show a remarkable level of empathy and concern."
We’re also delighted that fellow Director Anne Leiper retains her Band 2 status, having been ranked individually for the last 7 years. With a reputation as a fearsome litigator, Anne continues to take on lawyers from major City firms in court and secure the optimum outcome for her client.
- “Anne is both straightforward and welcoming, with a tenacious approach that leaves no legal or financial stone unturned."
- "Anne is a phenomenal solicitor who fights tooth and nail on behalf of her clients."
LGFL Ltd continues to shine as an exceptional listed boutique law firm amongst so many larger, multi-office legal firms in the area. LGFL’s recent growth and expanding reputation for complex casework has been driven by Rita’s experiences on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK programme. This competitive programme provides leaders of high-growth small businesses with practical education and business support.
Alongside our Band 3 status, we are particularly pleased that the Chambers testimonials reflect the strength, efficiency and approachability of our developing team.
- "LGFL is nothing short of fantastic. Their legal knowledge, skill and experience is unbeatable."
- "LGFL provides seamless and swift professional service to its clients. The team communicates extremely efficiently and swiftly and is a pleasure to work with."

Why is being a Band 1 lawyer such an achievement?
Across the world, law firms want to be ranked in Chambers and Partners. A ranking is the result of analysis of a detailed submission and extensive independent research by Chambers itself. Over 9,000 law firms submit for ranking every year, and 330 researchers conduct over 350.000 interviews and surveys to ensure they only list the very best.
That independent review process is very important, as Chambers themselves says:
“Sending a submission does not guarantee a ranking. While every submission is reviewed and assessed, only the best firms, departments and lawyers earn a Chambers ranking … The entire Chambers team involved in the assessment, from researchers to research directors, meets to analyse the findings and determine the final ranking tables.” (2)
What criteria are firms and individual ranked by?
The Chambers teams look at evidence of excellence in specific areas to determine ranking, namely:
-
- Evident legal ability
- Recognised client service
- Calibre of bench (how client’s needs are supported right across the team)
- Commercial awareness
- Demonstration of diligence
- Cost effectiveness (2)
How can Chambers and Partners help me choose the top law firms in the Thames Valley region?
One of the key features of Chambers is that it ranks all local law firms AND individual lawyers into Bands in various specialisms. So you can see at a glance which firms are deemed to be the top in family and matrimonial law in the region. You can then click on the name of a firm or a person to discover more about them.
Each profile for a firm or an individual includes testimonials (reviews) from real clients suggested by us (we ask their permission first of course!). They are subsequently interviewed/surveyed by Chambers researchers. This honest, real-life and timely feedback are included in the formal ranking process, as Chambers explains.
“Our rankings are based on real interviews with your specified references. A reference contact can be a client or anyone who has experience and knowledge of you and your firm over the last 12 months.”
Why independent testimonials are important
These testimonials are a very important part of our profile for potential clients looking for a lawyer, new colleagues and for our own information. Testimonials provide unique feedback from clients on how they have experienced our firm, our services and our individual Directors.
What’s more, Chambers curate the published testimonials themselves, so we have absolutely no influence on which are published or not. They also appear as anonymous quotes on the profile.

Chambers and Partners 2027 FAQs
Q. What’s the difference between Chambers and Partners and Legal 500?
Both of these long-established directories rank legal firms and lawyers across the world. The main difference is in how they categorise lawyers and the regions they work within, but both have the same aim: to provide independent, authoritative rankings for law firms and their lawyers free to view online by anyone. Formerly, both Chambers and Legal 500 were published in book form, but since the move to online editions, many more people can now access the information.
Q. Can I trust online reviews of LGFL?
In an age where it is hard to trust all reviews online, or be certain that AI searches have given us the right information, both Chambers and Legal 500 provide an authoritative, balanced and accurate view of UK law firms. In addition, we have two robust channels for people who want to review us online. Our main gateway is Review Solicitors, where clients can submit reviews themselves. This service also gathers reviews our clients may have submitted direct to Google. To view these, see the green Review Solicitors tab on this website. Currently, we have an amazing 5 star rating.
Q. Why should I choose a Chambers ranked law firm?
For full details of the benefits of choosing a Chambers and Partners ranked firm, see our article choose a Legal 500 Family Lawyer.
Q. How can law firms or lawyers gain higher Band ratings?
As we said in our previous article,
“Each ranks a law firm and their individual lawyers according to their performance, strengths and the quality of their work. Legal firms can achieve higher rankings through sustained growth, excellent customer service, high quality casework and other factors. The same applies to individual lawyers.” (4)
